Morrison Artists Series: New Century Saxophone Quartet

The only ensemble of its kind ever to win first prize of the Concert Artists Guild Competition, the New Century Saxophone Quartet brings its pioneering and versatile sound to the Morrison Artists Series at SF State. The quartet is winning new-found enthusiasm for its repertory, ranging from Bach’s complete The Art of the Fugue to innovative contemporary works.

The 40-member SF State Gospel Choir will perform a mix of traditional and contemporary songs, including Richard Smallwood’s Anthem of Praise—backed by the SF State Orchestra. Guest appearances by Stellar Award nominee Malcolm Williams and the San Jose State Gospel Choir.

Student vocalists perform with Brazil Vox, a Bay Area-based Brazilian music band. Professor Victoria Neve stops by to play a Thelonious Monk-based piano composition by George Crumb. The Afro-Cuban Ensemble of SF State has a loyal following on and off campus, performing a wide variety of Latin jazz genres, from traditional and folkloric Afro-Cuban styles to the most contemporary sounds.
