In this modern classic of 20th century drama, Luigi Pirandello depicts the compelling story of an Italian aristocrat who suffers amnesia after a severe fall in an equestrian escapade. He wakes up thinking he is Henry The Fourth of the German Holy Roman Empire. Modern psychiatry bursts violently into this world of masquerade and illusion when his friends permit a less-than-expert psychologist to conduct a peculiar “shock treatment” involving medieval portraits that transform themselves into living figures, an experiment that invites unforeseen disaster. Intersections of the Old and New presents advanced student choreography exploring diversity, expressing complex emotion and observing the iconic intricacies of modern life. Thirteen student voices offer a wide range of dynamic pieces, including a sophisticated twist on traditional tap, experimental theatre-dance fusion, modern, hip-hop, contemporary, abstract, gestural quirky and a fascinating fusion of modern movement with exotic belly dance. As varied as these dance forms are, a common ground exists—the desire to explore and express personal creativity through movement.

The Afro-Cuban Ensemble of SF State has a loyal following on and off campus, performing a wide variety of Latin jazz genres, from traditional and folkloric Afro-Cuban styles to the most contemporary sounds.
