The Generations Band, the SF State-created all-star jazz group, keeps on moving this summer with gigs from coast to coast. The group plays the Stanford Jazz Festival on Aug. 3, following a recent two-night bill in New York.

Dauermann_JonathanJonathan Dauermann is among 10 members of SF State’s class of 2009 who will be honored on stage at Commencement. The Bachelor of Music degree recipient is a hood recipient—receiving the symbolic investiture of the hood on behalf of his fellow graduates in the College of Creative Arts—and will sing the national anthem at the event.

William Corbett-JonesProfessor William Corbett-Jones has inspired hundreds of emerging pianists and thousands of music lovers throughout his 42-year-tenure at SF State. At 3pm April 26, the University will honor him with a concert celebrating his 80th birthday.

Student makes semifinals of Classical Star Search

Student makes semifinals of Classical Star Search

Graduate student Maiko Nishio, a flutist and pianist, is among 10 semifinalists in the KDFC-FM Classical Star Search. Vote for her early and often on the KDFC Web site, through April 26. A free Club KDFC membership is required to vote.

The finals for the 2009 Classical Star Search will be held May 11 at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Judges include Donald Runnicles of the San Francisco Opera, cellist Zuill Bailey and KDFC’s Dianne Nicolini. The winner receives a cash prize of $1,500.

Scott MacomberClassical trumpeter Scott Macomber, a lecturer in Music, “is an exemplar of the kind of musician who makes up the solid backbone of any area’s musical establishment,” wrote a blogger for the San Francisco Examiner Web site on March 27.
