SF State is home to 30-plus pieces of public art, providing the campus community a respite from the bustle of life and many opportunities to reflect.
Murals inside and outside the Student Center celebrate the University’s cultural diversity, including the Filipino, Asian and Pacific Islander, Palestinian and Latino communities. Ruth Asawa’s Garden of Remembrance honors former Japanese American students forced to live in World War II internment camps. Two works by modernist sculptor Benjamin Bufano live on campus. Fern fronds inform the benches by the Fine Arts Building, designed by Dan Stingle.
The Fine Arts Gallery and Cesar Chavez Student Center Gallery have created a self-guided campus art tour, taking a walk through the works by notable artists, alumni and students, honoring the vibrant and interesting elements they have added to the campus experience.
