The Generations Band, the SF State-created all-star jazz group, keeps on moving this summer with gigs from coast to coast. The group plays the Stanford Jazz Festival on Aug. 3, following a recent two-night bill in New York.
As the centerpiece of the SF State International Center for the Arts’ Generations Jazz Project, the Generations Band encourages jazz education to return to the mentorship and ensemble-based model that served it so well for so long. Led by alto saxophonist and Lecturer Andrew Speight, the band features a rotating lineup of established musicians who all possess great musicianship, depth of experience and a passion for teaching.
Speight will present a lecture titled “The Making of a Jazz Master” one hour before the Aug. 3 concert. Generations will also participate in a special Stanford Jazz jam session Aug. 7.
