Alumna Shaynee Rainbolt celebrates the four-trombone band swing of composer and arranger Russell Garcia on her latest album. With a voice “sweet as jasmine and honeysuckle, bold as brass and yet as seductive as a candlelit boudoir,” as Jazz Times has written, Rainbolt takes the 1950s–1960s style to Yoshi’s in Oakland on July 22.
Rainbolt (B.A., Drama, ’87) has played some of the top jazz venues from New Orleans to New York to London. Her new album “Charmed Life” features 16 Garcia originals, arranged and conducted by the 93-year-old legend himself. It was named one of the top 10 vocal CDs of 2008 by Talkinbroadway.com and has been a top seller among pop-jazz albums on CDBaby.com.
