The San Francisco Silent Film Festival takes viewers back to a bygone era of visual storytelling. The festival's executive director, Stacey Wisnia, is an SF State alumna.
“I love being transported to another era, seeing how the actors dressed, and the live music,” Wisnia said in a 2006 article in the Golden Gate [X]press.
Staying true to the silent film experience, live music by a pianist and percussionist accompany all films shown at the festival, held at the Castro Theatre.
Wisnia (B.A., Cinema, ’97) manages a board of directors, small staff, advisory committee, and more than 100 volunteers. The festival, founded in 1992, draws 11,000 viewers each year. This year’s festival was held July 10–12.
