Two alumni of the Cinema Department are among the many nominees for the 2008 News and Documentary Emmy Awards.
Ralph Arlyck, a former graduate student, is nominated twice for his feature-length film “Following Sean,” in the Best Documentary and Outstanding Individual Achievement in Writing categories. The film follows up on the subject of Arlyck's 1969 controversial student short "Sean," then a 4-year-old living the hippie lifestyle in the same Haight-Ashbury apartment building as Arlyck. "Following Sean" catches up with the grown-up Sean. After a long festival and theatrical run, "Following Sean" was broadcast on PBS' "P.O.V." last summer.
Janelle Rodriguez (M.F.A., '99), a senior producer at CNN, is part of the team on "The Situation Room" program nominated in the Outstanding Live Coverage of a Breaking News Story (Long Form) category for a piece on slain Pakistan leader Benazir Bhutto.
The 29th annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards will be presented Sept. 22 in New York City.
